Letting go

Verses on attachment, and on what is left when you stop clinging.

  • Let go of the past, let go of the future, let go of the present, and cross over to the farther shore of existence. With mind wholly liberated, you shall come no more to birth and death.

    Chapter 24: Craving, verse 15

  • He who clings to nothing of the past, present and future, who has no attachment and holds on to nothing — him do I call a holy man.

    Chapter 26: Brahmins, verse 39

  • Therefore hold nothing dear, for separation from the dear is painful. There are no bonds for those who have nothing beloved or unloved.

Chapter 16: The Beloved, verse 3

  • From attachment springs grief, from attachment springs fear. For one who is wholly free from attachment there is no grief, whence then fear?

Chapter 16: The Beloved, verse 6

  • Happy indeed we live, we who possess nothing. Feeders on joy we shall be, like the Radiant Gods.

    Chapter 15: Happiness, verse 4

  • One should give up anger, renounce pride, and overcome all fetters. Suffering never befalls him who clings not to mind and body and is detached.

    Chapter 17: Anger, verse 1
